For most book series, the second one falls into the dreaded category of “filler books” – boring, unnecessary, and prolonging the exciting conclusion. For us, these five sequels are actually better than the first book!
5. Catching Fire
This may be more a movie preference personally, but I (Katie) found the second plot more entertaining than the first.
4. The Scorch Trials
The first Maze Runner book was okay, but the second one made it feel like the plot was bigger than just the maze and moved the series along more efficiently.
3. City of Ashes
City of Bones was a good introduction to the Shadowhunter world, but City of Ashes allowed the story to actually unfold.
2. The Evolution of Mara Dyer
The writing in The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer felt very amateur, and this one took a darker and more mature turn.
1. A Court of Mist and Fury
We all know why…Rhysand.

Catching Fire is honestly one of the best sequels out there! 💕

I like Catching Fire better than the first one too, but Mockingjay is probably my favorite of the whole trilogy. 😍
