Top Five Friday | Most Anticipated Books at BEA & BookCon

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been scouring every spreadsheet and email possible trying to compile a list of ARCs, signings, and panels you want to attend while at BookExpo/BookCon. And if you’re anything like us too, your list will be a tad overwhelming. Somehow we’ve narrowed it down to a top five list of the ARCs we’re most excited to get our hands on!

5. Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich with Steven Levenson, Ben Pasek, & Justin Paul

The first Dear Evan Hansen-related ARC on our list is none other than a novelization of the musical itself! If only Ben Platt were there, our lives would be complete.

4. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

This one might be slightly cheating because we’ve both lucked out and gotten tickets to Naomi’s autographing during BookCon, during which copies of Spinning Silver will be passed out and signed. It’s nice to have one guarantee on the list at least!

3. What If It’s Us by Becky Albertali & Adam Silvera

We have plans to get in line early for this one! I feel like the line will be long for it.

2. Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

Speaking of long lines, the one for this one will be no different. If we leave with only this one, consider it a successful BookExpo.

1. The Wicked King by Holly Black

We’re super hopeful that we can snag a copy of this one for our ARC collection! The Cruel Prince is a clear favorite from this year, so we’re dying to hold a copy of the sequel! If it’s even there, that is. And that’s it! Are you going to BookExpo/BookCon? Let us know your top five!

  1. Oh will they be giving out arcs of Dear Evan Hansen book? I wasn’t sure if they were or not. I am so excited for bookcon! I can’t wait. I’m really hoping to get Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas and then I saw something about Karin Slaughter’s new book. So excited!

    1. They’ll be passing out copies at a signing during either Thursday or Friday of BookExpo, but I think it’s just a panel with the authors and creators during BookCon!

I’ve heard Kara Thomas has some great reads!

      1. Aw I am so bummed that I won’t be at BookExpo. I gotta try to go next year.

Yeah she does!! Her book The Darkest Corners is so good. Her newest book sounds awesome.

  2. I didn’t know about the Dear Evan Hansen book. Is it basically the show in book form? I’m a huge theater nerd, so I love all things theater related, lol. I actually was fortunate enough to see the show when tickets where still possible to get when it played off- broadway at Second Stage before it made its way to Broadway. What a wonderful show, so incredibly good. “Waving Through A Window” is definitely one of my all time favorite broadway songs. Love your site, by the way!

    1. To my knowledge, it’s a novelization of the show! The creators are taking a part in it, so I’m pretty sure it’ll follow the plot of the musical. But how cool!! I always wanted to go see it when Ben Platt was Evan, so maybe he’ll reprise in the future?? Anyway, thanks for the compliments!

      1. That’s so cool! I can’t wait to get that book now. I absolutely loved the musical. I knew about it for about a year before it played off- broadway. I figured it would probably go on Broadway at some point, but these days it sometimes doesn’t matter how good something is. That Broadway transfer is never guaranteed. So when I heard it was playing off- broadway, I couldn’t wait so I decided to see it then. Which is really good for me because I never would of imagined it would be as popular as it turned out to be. Tickets were impossible to get. Yeah, I could definitely see Ben Platt returning at some point to the show again. Sorry, to go on and on about theater in a book related post, lol. Like I said Theater Nerd over here, lol.

  3. I think I would actually sell an organ for Muse of Nightmares. Like, for real. Besides the fact that it’s my MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK OF THE YEAR, I’m also a hardcore Laini Taylor collector. I can’t wait to have those beautiful books on my shelves. So pretty. UGH, so jealous of BEA peeps.
