Hello, everyone! The day has finally come: The Wicked King is finally out in the world. I was privileged enough to read an early copy through Edelweiss – thank god for e-ARCs. I finished reading on May 4th, a solid 8 months before the release date. Basically, I like to torture myself. I’ve been sitting on these secrets and plot points for MONTHS, and it’s so exciting that everyone can now buy and read this beauty.
I’m not one to hand out 5 star ratings to very many books. I need to be really entertained and all-around invested in the story and characters, and let me tell you: this story is enticing. Jude is a heroine you just can’t help but root for, and every time she’s successful, I feel proud of her. Her chemistry with Cardan is intense in the best way possible, and Holly Black is so damn good at creating a slow burning romance. The last bit of this book was a rollercoaster and a half. The ending left me so desperate to get my hands on book three, which is so far away. Are e-ARCs going to be available soon? I need to know.
Honestly, the only real downfall to this book is the secondary characters. I felt like there were a lot of people that would come and go, and I had no real time to know them at all. Granted, they might not be important in the grand scheme of things, but sometimes characters come back in a big way, and I’d like to remember who they actually are. Plus, it was a little hard to keep up with all the political drama and warfare when I wasn’t sure who was who? Maybe I just read through those parts too quickly – I was trying to get to more Jude and Cardan scenes, do you blame me?
All in all, I highly recommend this series to any fantasy lover. The writing is great, the character development just gets better and better, and the world is super intriguing. The concept of a girl fighting to survive in a world where she’s not wanted can hit home to so many, and we all need to experience the kind of strength that Jude shows tremendously well in this sequel.
Until next time,

I absolutely adored The Wicked King, and was fortunate enough to win a copy via ReadersFirst which arrived a few days ago. Needless to say I devoured it.
I agree on the point about some of the secondary characters. But the political climate and scheming was so intriguing.
I am already dying to read the sequel…a year is too long to wait.
I need more Jude and Cardan interaction
