Hello, everyone! The fact that it is mid July is baffling to me. Half of the year is already over, and with that, I decided to take part in the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag! I’ve seen this tag around the interwebs, and it looked super fun. Warning: my version of this tag might be boring because I haven’t honestly read a whole lot this year. I have a total of six whole books I can choose from for these questions – so sad.
Anyway, let’s get to the questions!
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019
Sorcery of Thorns! It’s fast-paced, magic-filled, and it has books that are alive and have feelings. What else do you need to know? Go read it.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019
I’ve only read one sequel so far this year, and I really didn’t like it. So, I don’t have a real answer for this one.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
I’ve heard super good things about The Storm Crow, and the cover is really intriguing!
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
I feel like everyone is going to say Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, which I am actually really excited for, but I can’t not say Queen of Nothing by Holly Black. This final book in the Cruel Prince series has me extremely worried, but I’ve never been more excited.
5. Biggest disappointment
The Map from Here to There was super disappointing to me. I was super hyped for this release because I really enjoyed The Start of Me and You, but this one just fell short.
6. Biggest surprise
If I have to pick one, I’ll go with Again, but Better by Christine Riccio, aka Polandbananasbooks on BookTube! I wouldn’t say this was 100% a pleasant surprise, because honestly I didn’t love this as much as I wanted to, but I was surprised by certain plot aspects of this story.
7. Favorite new author (Debut or new to you)
Margaret Rogerson! I really enjoyed the writing of Sorcery of Thorns, so I’ll definitely read whatever she puts out.
8. Newest fictional crush
Speaking of Rogerson, I truly love Nathaniel in Sorcery of Thorns. He’s incredibly sweet, and his magic is super interesting.
9. Newest favorite character
I really enjoyed Darrow in Red Rising. He’s a bit more aggressive and unruly compared to other book protagonists, and that’s what I really like about him.
10. Book that made you cry
I haven’t cried while reading this year. No promises for the rest of 2019, though!
11. Book that made you happy
Mamrie Hart’s I’ve Got This Round! I really love Mamrie’s YouTube videos, and I religiously listen to her and Grace Helbig’s podcast. So, this audiobook (which Mamrie read herself) was incredibly entertaining. I highly recommend, you’ll actually laugh out loud.
12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
I really love the Owlcrate edition of Wicked Saints. I feel like the black really speaks to the themes of the book, and I really enjoyed the story as well!
13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Here are some, but not all! I’m super excited to try and get back into binge reading for the second half of the year. I’ve been sort of sad to not read as much this year, so I’m definitely working on it.
What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year? The worst? The prettiest? Tell me everything!
Until next time,
I didn’t like Margaret Rogerson’s debut but this post definitely motivates me to give Sorcery of Thorns a try! Adding to my TBR now 🙂

I really like this tag and might have to steal it! We’ve read a lot of the same book this year and it’s nice to get some reinforcement on my thoughts with some of them.

You seem to have a thing for books with crow in the title 😛 I hope you get through and enjoy your upcoming TBR.
